Let’s get right to it. Is modlily.com (the women’s clothing shop) a legit website? The short answer is no, they are a SCAM!

My First Impression Of Modlily
I am always on the hunt for scams, and it is in my nature to be skeptical UNTIL I’m proven wrong. Here are some notable red flags I’ve come across after digging around their site:
- When first entering their website, I am bombarded with FIVE pop-ups!
- Their product images are HEAVILY Photoshopped/AI-Generated.
- Their image style is inconsistent.
- Their product names are heavily keyword-stuffed.
- They have floating stickers with things like ‘Free gift’, and ‘2024 NEW’.
- I see a lot of poorly-written English and formatting issues. For example, the very first sentence of their About page says, “We are launched in 2009, and hope to be the preferred online fast fashion brand of global consumers.”
- Their entire About page is FULL of stock photos.
- They list their Trustpilot and Sitejabber rating on their About page.
There are many more red flags that I left out and undoubtedly missed. This is just my initial overview of the shop’s website – keep scrolling for a deeper dive!

Is Modlily Sustainable?

According to their Terms of Use page and Facebook page, they are located in Hong Kong and China. They are located at the following places:

Where Does Modlily Ship From?
According to my tracking information, my order was originally shipped from overseas. I received my order from a distribution center in New Jersey (United States).
Where Is Modlily’s Clothing Made?
My items were made in China.

- The website modlily.com was registered in October 2014.
Modlily Clothing Review
I ordered the below items on 6/2/2023 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $100.50 to Modlily.com (service@modlily.com) via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *MODLILY COM”. – View Order Confirmation
1) Split Leaf-Print Belted Maxi Dress
Brand or Supplier Label: Unknown
Color/Size/Cost: Pink / M / $34.98
Country: Unknown
Material: The product page states “100% Polyester”.
Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but not the right fit for my proportions. It is a straight fit, and is not good for curvier shapes. View my Body Measurements for size reference.
Quality: In my opinion, the quality is okay. The material is a bit scratchy, and I see some loose threads in various places. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.
Value: On sale, this could be worth it for the right person!
2) One-Piece Swimwear
Brand or Supplier Label: Unknown
Color/Size/Cost: Black / M / $28.98
Country: Made in China
Material: Different materials are listed in two places:
- Product page- “88% Nylon, 12% Spandex”
- Care label- 82% Polyester / 18% Spandex

Value: Although it is not the highest quality one-piece, it is pretty and fits well. It’s worth the price!
3) Mesh High-Waisted Tropical-Plants-Print Bikini Set
Brand or Supplier Label: Unknown
Color/Size/Cost: Coral / M / $31.98
Country: Made in China
Material: Different materials are listed in two places:
- Product page- “82% Nylon, 18% Spandex”
- Care label- 82% Polyester / 18% Spandex
Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but not the right fit for my proportions. The upper waistband fits a bit tightly while everywhere else fits okay. View my Body Measurements for size reference.
Quality: In my opinion, the quality is mediocre. The center where it is sewn together (top of the key-hole) is too low and creates a weird shape, and the bottoms aren’t lined. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.
Value: It is NOT worth the price I paid.
Shipment Info
I received three items in one package at my address in North Carolina (United States). The package came from a warehouse/distribution center in the United States. I was provided a tracking number.

- I received my package on Tuesday, June 8th
- Total time of 6 days
Return & Refund Info
I completed a return request for all items via their return portal on June 8th. It was instantly approved, and I was provided a prepaid return label. I emailed the package on June 9th.

I received a full refund of $85.95 (minus the prepaid shipping label fee and shipping insurance) on June 27th. I received it eighteen days after mailing the package. – View Refund Receipt
Customer Service Experience
Responsiveness
My experience was seamless, and I didn’t need to contact their support email for anything (including the return since it was done through their return portal). My return was approved and I was provided with the next steps instantly. However, I spoke with support via their instant chat about a Chinese address that I found connected to their site. Their response was “what??”. It was a rather unprofessional, language-barrier-filled conversation.

- Full store credit (no return fee)
- Standard return (incur $9.99 shipping fee)
I went with the second option.
Reverse Image Search
Based on my findings, there are MANY other small boutiques/online shops/marketplaces that appear to sell many of the same items as Modlily. Possible reasons for this include the use of the same suppliers, this shop operating as a wholesaler or marketplace, the same owner operating multiple stores and/or selling on multiple platforms, the use of stolen images, etc.
With that being said, I found several of the same products on Amazon, Temu, Walmart Marketplace, etc. for much cheaper. For example, I found the below tankini for $29.98 on Modlily, and $17.82 on Walmart Marketplace. Based on the reverse image search results, I believe these are near-identical, low-quality items offered at different prices.
