Menlo Club Subscription Review

About Menlo House

Menlo House is an e-commerce website that sells casual clothing and accessories for men. The brand also offers a monthly and quarterly style subscription for club members. In our Menlo Club subscription review, we’ll go over this service to help you decide whether or not it’s worth your money.

Overview of Menlo Club

Fashion entrepreneurs Andres Inquieta and Dee Murthy founded the clothing brand Five Four in 2002. Their original mission was simple: to help men dress better. Menlo House evolved from this initial brand and has since achieved international status.

In the last year, Menlo House has ramped up its style subscription offering with the launch of two exciting new brands. In the words of Inquieta and Murthy:

“At the start of the new year, we asked ourselves how we could create a more personalized experience for you, our Five Four Man.”

Their answer: Grand AC sportswear and New Republic shoes. The Menlo Club subscription is growing in popularity in the urban style sector, providing members with modern and trend-conscious clothing from Five Four, Grand AC and New Republic.

Menlo Club members have access to exclusive benefits: They receive monthly or quarterly packages of 2-3 high-quality items, free shipping, and access to private sales not available to other Menlo House customers.

In this Menlo Club subscription review, we’ll take an in-depth look at the Style service. We’ll start with the pros and cons of Menlo Club:

How Menlo Club Works

Signing up as a Menlo Club member makes shopping for clothes easy – no endless browsing on the website or aimlessly wandering around retail stores looking for something to inspire you.

New subscribers complete a short quiz that helps Menlo Club stylists put together curated boxes based on sizing and personal style preferences. The quiz only takes a few minutes and involves selecting images of garments that you find particularly appealing. More details on the sign-up process can be found below in this Menlo Club subscription review.

When you join the Menlo Club, you agree to pay a monthly styling fee of $60. Members will receive 2-3 garments and shoes from Menlo Club each month. That’s at least 24 new garments per year, ensuring your outfits are always fresh and fashionable.

Five Four

Menlo House has evolved from Five Four and is the brand most represented in the Menlo Club packages. Five Four clothing has the look of streetwear, with casual pieces such as hoodies, sweatshirts, jeans, T-shirts and shorts. Most of Five Four’s clothing is in darker, neutral colors, some with graphics and fun prints like camo and tye dye.

Five Four x Mark McNairy is a new collaboration included in the subscription. Compared to Five Four, it has a more elevated feel, with styles ranging from traditional to bold prints and patterns to elegant leather pieces.

Grand AC

Grand AC has the same casual vibe as Five Four and many of the same colors and prints. Where Five Four makes streetwear, Grand AC blurs the line between sportswear and athleisure. If you like the idea of camo workout clothes, you’ll love Grand AC. A Menlo Club package with Grand AC could give you everything from shirts inspired by soccer jerseys to training tanks, shorts and tights.

New Republic

The shoes from New Republic offer a change from the clothing items most commonly found in the Menlo Club packages. New Republic’s classic shoes, boots and sneakers are made of high-quality leather and suede. Combined with Five Four and Grand AC, New Republic shoes complete the personalized outfits for Menlo Club subscribers. You can find more information about New Republic in our detailed test report.

In a typical year of package deliveries, a Menlo Club member can expect the following deliveries:

  • Five Four – modern clothing for 8 months
  • Grand AC Athleisure clothing for 2 months
  • New Republic shoes for 2 months

Is the Menlo Club Subscription Worth It?

While writing this review of the Menlo Club subscription, I googled online customer reviews to see if there were any noticeable complaints or red flags. I’m happy to report that most customers seem to be generally satisfied with the service.

On the website AskMen, Menlo Club received a 4.5/5 star rating, and on My Subscription Addiction, the rating is 3.6/5. Many customers stated that the items are of good quality and that they consider their monthly cost to be money well spent overall.

While I did find several complaints about the clothing not fitting well and being of flimsy quality, by far the most common complaint I came across was related to difficulty canceling the subscription. Several customers complained that Menlo House staff ignored their requests to cancel.

One customer stated that when he contacted the staff, he was told that canceling his Menlo Club was not possible for security reasons. The latter sounds rather strange, and I’m curious to know how this came about.

Aside from this negative feedback, most Menlo Club reviews online are positive. Based on my findings for this Menlo Club subscription review, I feel that $60 is a small price to pay for 2-3 items of men’s clothing and footwear per month.

Menlo Club sounds like an interesting shopping solution for those who aren’t interested in hitting the high street or even trawling online websites to pick out their own items.
